"The 11th Hour" (2007) - reviewed September 7, 2007

Charismatic actor Leonardo DiCaprio makes his directorial debut, stepping into a truly global leadership role, 'raising the bar' and inspiring others of all ages to do so.  In this highly moving documentary, a rich flowing of environmental images are interspersed with brief, highly impactful interviews with many of the planet's leading thinkers.  DiCaprio gives us just enough of each facet of his passionate topic to 'get it', then moves on seamlessly to the next.  The result is a complete picture - a comprehensive yet simple story of how we have arrived at where we are at this, "The 11th Hour".  Painting the clear picture of our current situation is the first chapter of this evocative film.  The editors graciously move from gruesome facts to solutions.  Surely a film to make viewers think - and feel, deep into their souls - "The 11th Hour" ignites hope and clarity of how to move forward, with a vivid recognition that the time is now.

Playing at Fifth Avenue Cinemas in Vancouver and at theatres throughout North America and beyond.  "The 11th Hour" is a must-see for anyone with heart - which is all of us.

"Keeping Mum" (2006) - reviewed October 30, 2006

What attracted Ariole and me to see "Keeping Mom" was perhaps the wonderful cast (including Maggie Smith, Rowan Atkinson, Kristin Scott Thomas, Patrick Swayze), and the fact that it was a British flick.  During the movie, i did not laugh as much as I had hoped that I would, and after the show was over, I wasn't quite sure how I felt about the experience. Ariole and I had just completed leading a Workshop on the subjects of Consciousness, Sexuality, and Oneness that day, and we were really looking forward to switching off our brains with something that was light-hearted.  Little did we know how relevant the subject matter of this story was as it strongly echoed one of the key concerns addressed by our Workshop particpants: the devastating affects that religion can have on our love life, our sexual expression, and relationships in general through imposed shame, guilt, and fear.

To read the movie synopsis please go to http://www.keepingmum.com .

The brilliance of this story is the way in which such a topic can be delivered within the context of good old British humour.

From our "Tantric View", this is what the message of this movie means to me:

*  Don't fear God - Love Life!
*  Accept God and Life as an unsolved Mystery - Live It!
*  Love the One you're with - Shamelessly!
*  Stand up for yourself - and don't let others push you around!
*  Make jokes often - don't take life so seriously - Enjoy Life!
Healthy sexuality is the source of a Prosperous Life!

Perhaps these themes, relating to the story "Keeping Mom", could be the subject of our next "Tele-Group Coaching" Session on Tuesday, November 14!  If this inspires you, call 604-731-1783 or email info@veraxis.net to register.

"Keeping Mum" is currently playing at the Ridge Theatre in Vancouver - and at a theatre near you!

With Joy and Gratitude,

"Peaceful Warrior" (2006) - reviewed July 20, 2006

It was a delight to hear recently that Dan Millman’s acclaimed Way of the Peaceful Warrior was soon to be released as a motion picture – and an even greater delight to experience it ‘live’ at the cinema earlier this week.  Having heard about “the book that changed lives” years ago (it was first released in 1980) and having finally read it last summer, I was highly impressed with … in movie terms … the ‘treatment’ it was given as a film.

There is a wonderful arisal of ‘meaningful’ movies taking place, a wave that is growing.  These filmmaking pioneers are taking brave steps into the ‘unknown’ – in many ways – including exploring how to convey the invisible realms … in a visible medium.

“Peaceful Warrior” does this to a tee.  Its pacing, presentation, cinematography, and at times slow-motion effects adeptly convey the ‘altered state of consciousness’ – that is, simply put, ‘listening in to the inner realms of wisdom’ – which Dan is powerfully learning and which Socrates poetically, sublimely lives.  “Peaceful Warrior” succeeds at taking us in … to a way of perceiving, thinking (and not thinking), and of being aware which is so vital to our world today.

"Where am I?  Here.  What time is it?  Now.  Who am I?  This moment."

As someone who has experienced guides, visions, psychic initiations, and miraculous physical healing much like Dan has, I give this movie a hearty ‘thumbs up’ with a recommendation that it be seen widely by many people.  It will move you, inspire you, perhaps gently jolt you, and make you laugh.  I am grateful to “Peaceful Warrior” for paving the way for many other such movies to come.

"The Da Vinci Code" (2006) - reviewed June 25, 2006

The point of this review is not to critique the movie itself.  It is its subject matter - and its deep meaning - that really counts.  Whether you believe in conspiracy theories, or secrets groups and sects, is truly irrelevant.  Let us not get side-tracked by the indulgences of the rational mind when our
ego-intellect engages in discussions about what may or may not be - what is or is not - fact or fiction.

A very very sad fact - and a major theme in "The Da Vinci Code" - is that, for whatever reasons, the relationship between Man and Woman is - and has been - devastangly distressed.  The story in "The Da Vinci Code" offers the cure for humanity's perennial struggle between peace and war.  It is this: Recognize the feminine and masculine as equally important and divine.

Whether Jesus ever existed, as many people believe, and whether he did or did not have a lover and/or a family, is not nearly as important as the power of the pure Christ message: Love more.

"The Da Vinci Code" may move humanity closer to planetary peace if everyone listens to its message.  I have.

"Live and Become" (2006) - recommended May 9/06

Every once in a very great while a truly profound and important movie is produced.

"Live and Become" recounts the most impactful story this movie-goer has ever experienced.

A young boy is thrust into the vast unknown in the name of love ... and of life itself.  What unfolds over several countries is a chronicle so deeply moving ... a veritable testament to family bonds, to personal resolve, and ultimately to the capacity of the human spirit, portrayed with a realism rarely seen.

You will probably feel, as I did, a renewed desire to be in service.  Take heart-centered friends and kleenex.

Recently playing at the Fifth Avenue Cinemas, watch for it's release elsewhere.

"Pride and Prejudice" (2005) - reviewed Feb 27/06

"Pride and Prejudice" is our first movie review and it lends itself perfectly for describing a key principle for healthy relationships.  Always be true to yourself.

Colin …            It is obvious from the very beginning of the movie that the two main characters - Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy - are destined for each other, even though they seem to be so far apart.  The movie shows how they remove one obstacle after another while they're unaware of doing it.  The real strength of the movie is how it demonstrates how our pride and prejudices keep us from experiencing real love in our lives.  The story clearly shows that one does not need to compromise on one's convictions in order to have love and fulfillment.  Both Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth allow themselves to proceed towards each other only as far as their current values, feelings and circumstances allow them to.  And we see, as they break through them, how they move closer towards each other.  Once all the obstacles have been removed, the path is set for clear love.

Ariole …            She held him true to himself.  As long as there was anything questionable in his behavior, she did not allow herself to act on her feelings of love.  She challenged him, through withholding herself from him, to come clean and take responsibility for his behavior, his actions, and his prejudices of the past.  Likewise, she and her family had to admit that they had held prejudices towards him for his wealth, shyness, and apparent snobbishness.  To come together, both he and she had to break through their illusions of each other.

Colin …             "Pride and Prejudice" is a great story about integrity of character, which requires one to be truthful with the moment.  Elizabeth had the courage to always challenge her own convictions, and to admit having been wrong.  These are essential qualities for a healthy relationship, and we thus recommend others to see the movie and learn from it.
